WANT TO HEAR  MORE?

I was born in North Vancouver, BC, and the rain and the trees and the mountains and the ocean of this landscape are a part of me. I may travel, or live elsewhere for a time, but this will always be my home.

About me...

I am blessed with a loving husband, two cats, good friends, and a loving and supportive family. I have wanted to become a teacher since I was 8 years old, but even with that goal long in mind, I have taken a long and winding road to get to this stage of my journey. My undergrad spanned nearly 8 years and two schools - Capilano College/University and UBC - and I dipped my toes into many different disciplines. Pleasantly, I have found that even the most introductory 100-level classes have been beneficial, often in unexpected ways, and all of my experiences have fused to shape the person and the professional I have become.

My teaching specialization in English reflects my lifelong love affair with books, as well as my passion for writing. I have been involved in a few small publications as both contributor and editor, notably in Capilano College's The Liar creative zine. I have a love of fine arts, and took printmaking, ceramics, drawing, Art History, and painting in Capilano College's Studio Art program. I also enjoy improv and theatre.

My time in the BEd program has been an amazing, inspiring, and somewhat surreal experience. It often seemed as though my classes were perfectly suited to my background and tastes. I had this sense of being exactly where I was supposed to be. The environments in my UBC classes, my practicum school, and my Community Field Experience (CFE) all seemed perfectly fit to help give me the right mixture of challenge, support, and inspiration. Everything seemed to line up to help me blossom into the best version of myself both professionally and personally.

Having (all but) completed the program, it is my hope to make my own classroom into an environment designed to suit the unique needs of my students, and to guide and walk with my students through that stage of their life journeys which we will share. I finish the program with the same goal as when I began: to make a difference in the lives of my students. This year has given me the knowledge and skills that will enable me to realize that goal as I turn the page to the next chapter.
